Teaching the Holocaust and understanding antisemitism are crucial educational and social imperatives. With this in mind, the Montreal Holocaust Museum will host an unmissable event on May 2nd, from 4 pm to 7 pm, at the Gelber Conference Center. This gathering, in English with a bilingual question period, will feature two enlightening presentations. Alex Maws, from the Association of Jewish Refugees, will delve into the mechanisms of anti-Jewish racism. Following that, Yoni Berrous from Yad Vashem will share insights on education against antisemitism in the classroom. Moderated by Jody Spiegel, this evening promises to be enriching. These experienced speakers will provide essential insights for better understanding these critical topics.

Speakers:
- Alex Maws: As the Head of Education and Heritage at the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR), Alex champions and evaluates Holocaust educational programs across the UK. He is also the producer and host of the AJR’s Kindertransport podcast. He is a member of the UK delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and regularly trains teachers and policymakers internationally on issues relating to the Holocaust and antisemitism.
- Yoni Berrous: Born in France and living in Israel since 1992, Yoni heads the English-speaking countries section within the department of seminars and training at the International School for Holocaust Studies, Yad Vashem. He completed a Master of Arts in International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has extensive experience in Holocaust education and combating antisemitism.
- Jody Spiegel: Director of the Azrieli Foundation’s Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program, Jody works with teachers and academics to share the written testimonies of Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Canada after the war. She has been a Canadian delegate of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) since 2014, representing Canadian expertise in areas of pedagogy, Holocaust distortion in the classroom, and antisemitism.
