The seminar is structured around daily themes:
– Wednesday, July 3: The History of Antisemitism
Guest speaker Tal Bruttmann, historian specializing in antisemitism and the Holocaust.

– Thursday, July 4: Antisemitism, Racism, and Social Media
Guest speaker Katharina Soemer, distinguished researcher from the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism at Indiana University Bloomington.

– Friday, July 5: Deconstructing Antisemitism and Racism
Guest speaker Valentina Gaddi, doctoral student in sociology at the University of Montreal.

Activities over the three days include:
– Lectures by experts in antisemitism, racism, and online hate
– Training workshops and tool-sharing sessions led by university researchers and partner organizations such as Université de Sherbrooke, the Azrieli Foundation, Civix, Facing History, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and the McCord Museum
– Workshops based on educational programs developed by the Museum, including exhibition tours and primary source analysis using objects and testimonies
– Testimonies from Holocaust survivors, in-person and a session with an interactive biography
– Exploratory visits throughout Montreal to reflect on teaching beyond the classroom

OBJECTIVES

After completing the seminar, you will gain:
– A deeper understanding of antisemitism, racism, and the challenges posed by social media.
– A wide range of resources for discussing these issues in the classroom.
Tools to deconstruct antisemitism and racism and to combat misinformation.
Connections with a network of educators across Canada.
