Join us for an incredibly moving concert experience at Bourgie Hall to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th at 7:30pm. Distinguished Austrian baritone Wolfgang Holzmair and pianist Olivier Godin will perform works composed at the Theresienstadt concentration camp.
There was a flowering of cultural life between 1942 – 1944 at the camp despite unimaginable conditions – there were concerts, opera performances, theater and cabaret, lecture series, art exhibitions, and literary soirees – in short, a range of activity that reflected the enormous diversity and creativity of the camp’s population. This concert will feature music from 13 composers who were at the center of this remarkable artistic world, namely Pavel Haas, Emmerich Kalman, Gideon Klein, Hans Krása, Hermann Leopoldi, Felix Porges, Schumann/Kopper, Otto Skutecky, Adolf Strauss, Karel Švenk, Carlo S. Taube, Viktor Ullmann and Ilse Weber.
This music was a powerful act of resistance when it was written and is now an important act of remembrance as we honour and remember this dark chapter of history.
Tickets are $46 for the general public and $23 for those aged 34 and under.
