Join us for a virtual screening of Céline Masson’s Shmonzes, la mémoire par l’objet (Memory Through Objects). This film will be available in French.

As a Museum dedicated to preserving memory of Jewish life before, during, and after the Holocaust, we understand the profound significance of objects sometimes referred to as shmonzes, small personal items of little financial value, but tremendous sentimental worth.

Céline Masson’s documentary film explores the significance of a collection of shmonzes for their owners, Jewish families who maintain a connection their past through these precious objects. Among the items are an ashtray, a candlestick, a samovar, a vase, a saucepan, a ring, a wooden toy and a painting.

These shmonzes are passed down from one generation to the next, travelling through history, and carrying personal memories. Above all, they maintain a link with those who have passed away and the worlds that were destroyed during the Holocaust.

The film will be available to registered viewers between November 17th and 24th.

Free reservations are required.
